ELSEWHERE

Elsewhere is a poetic photo book; where nostalgia bends reality into something soft and elusive, like a half-remembered dream. The lines blur, colours bleed, moments smudge, and nothing feels fixed.

The book follows the life of wanderer; a lover of limerence. Djenabé is both seeker and subject, attempting to commune with the spirit of a place, hoping to find fragments of herself in every photograph and fleeting encounter. She does not intend to document the physical world she witnesses, but rather, the unseen forces that drive her transient sensations.

In her poetry, Djenabé reshapes her recollections to satiate unspoken wishes, and remember moments that existed only in her heart. This is how she tells her story; of a woman who travels and unravels, until her desires become impossible to untangle from her memories.

There’s a strange sense of déjà vu embedded in these pages, as if we’ve all been here countless times; with lovers, with ancestors, with God. This feeling, this elsewhere— isn’t bound by time or place—it’s a state of being, an unconscious yearning for the intangible.
